About Jason Simanek

Jason Simanek (shi-'mä-nik) is a web designer/developer currently located in Nashville, but originally from Nebraska. He was raised near – but not in – a barn. He is a descendant of a long line of Nebraska farmers and Czech peasants. Jason also has a brother and sister that are graphic designers. None of his siblings are farmers.

Yet.

After completing college degrees in Fine Art and Graphic Design and working as a designer for several years, Jason discovered and pursued an interest in web design and development. After a lot of self-education, he found opportunities to apply what he had learned about the web to his full-time design positions.

Jason has been working as a full-time print and/or web designer since 2002. Most of his professional experience has been focused on in-house web design and a wide array of computer-related technical problem solving which includes:

  • Layouts and Graphics for the web and print
  • HTML emails
  • (X)HTML + CSS
  • JavaScript
  • Server-side Scripts: PHP
  • Digital workflow maintenance, training, documentation and design

If you are looking for help with your website or other design project, send Jason an e-mail about your project. Please include a time frame, budget and any technical requirements.

What’s up with your last name?

The name Simanek is of Czech origin. The pronunciation shown above is the result of certain accent marks that were dropped as my ancestors assimilated into the U.S. culture.

The name is correctly written: Šimánek

The little ‘v’ above the ‘S’ is called a háček or hachek although Unicode calls it a ‘caron’. Wikipedia has some good background on the use of this diacritic as well as the Czech language itself.
